Threshold Fund
After 8 years and 40 films - including Hale County This Morning This Evening, The Edge of Democracy, Going to Mars: The Nikki Giovanni Project - the Threshold Foundation is retiring their High Impact Documentary Film Circle.
Starting in 2016, the Doc Society and Threshold Foundations' partnership was born under the shared belief that documentaries have the potential to transform public perception on major issues by exploring compelling, underrepresented stories with a depth and nuance that is not seen in most mainstream media.
The fund has supported 40 films with over $1.6 million in production grants. These films touched on issues including democracy, racial justice, LGBTQ+ rights, migration, the climate crisis, and freedom of speech. Films which speak truth to power, connect us to our humanity, and open the possibility to spark change.
We couldn’t be more proud to have supported these pressing, artful, and contemporary films that pushed the documentary form and shed light on stories that brought audiences to new worlds.
